ArchivesNovember 23, 2011Long Fence and Home gives the gift of happy, healthy homes this holiday season
As the seasons of giving approaches, our thoughts drift to one group that defines giving: American veterans. These men and women risked their lives and fought bravely for our country, but now that they have aged, they need assistance with basic household chores such as cleaning gutters, clearing brush, trimming tree limbs or maintaining their sidewalks and landscapes. That’s why Long Fence and Home, the Washington DC area’s leading home improvement company, is teaming up with Decorate-A-Vet to provide home makeovers for veterans in Northern Virginia this holiday season. As part of the partnership, Long Fence and Home will install new gutter systems or new replacement windows in the homes of six veterans in Falls Church who served in either the Korean War or World War II. Through these installations, the veterans’ homes will not only become more energy efficient, but they will reduce the amount of maintenance needed for cleaning and repair around the home. The newly renovated homes will be unveiled on December 3 in a short ceremony. Additional renovations that Decorate-A-Vet has commissioned to be done by other home improvement contractors are landscaping, mulching, painting, handrail installation and tree stump removal. These generous donations will improve the appearance and functionality of the veterans’ homes.
On top of the home improvements, Long Fence and Home is also collecting items for a Holiday Gift Box that will be presented to the veterans during their home unveiling. The team at Long Fence and Home will provide gift cards to stores such as Target, Dunkin Donuts and Giant along with a variety of holiday items to help spruce up the veterans’ homes in time for holiday celebrations. If you would like to donate some items for the Holiday Gift Box, feel free to stop by 10236 Southard Drive in Beltsville, Maryland during regular business hours. Every little bit helps! HAPPY HOLIDAYS! November 23, 2011Holiday tips from Long Fence and HomeLong Fence and Home wants to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving! Here are a few tips on how to make your home more festive for the big family dinner — in addition to all the delicious food! Welcome your guests outside with fall door decor
We all know that doors can be beautiful by themselves, especially Long Doors, but why not spruce them up with some new, Autumn decor to welcome your Thanksgiving guests? Instead of the typical autumn wreath, try hot gluing autumn leaves, acorns, maize, and branches to an empty, wooden picture frame. You can glue all around the picture frame, or keep some of the frame showing for a more rustic look. Either attach this frame to a regular wreath hanger, which you can hide by gluing leaves, branches, and more, or use an orange or mauve ribbon to hang the frame on your front door. Welcome your guests inside with pumpkin pie potpourri
Fill your kitchen or any other room with the welcoming smell of pumpkin pie. Below is a great new way to fill your home with the welcoming smell of pumpkin pie. Cut the top and clean out the inside of a few small to medium-sized pumpkins. Use an apple corer to make holes all around each pumpkin for venting. Rub seasonal spices, such as cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, vanilla, and cloves throughout the inside of the pumpkin. Place a small, votive candle inside the pumpkin. When you light the candle, the smell of pumpkin pie will fill every room — before you even bake the actual pie! We hope these small tips add some festivity to your home for the upcoming holiday.
