October’s Energy Saving Tip

Save energy while cooking pie this October

As fall kicks into gear and the air starts to slightly chill, you might be tempted to bake some pumpkin or apple pie (we at Long Fence and Home aren’t too picky). But while the pies are no doubt delicious, you may be wasting money on your gas or electric bill in the process. Here are two quick tips on how to save some money while baking some delectable dishes:

First and foremost, don’t open the oven door while baking. We know it’s tempting, but every time that door opens, precious heat is realesed from the oven. In order to compensate, your oven draws a little more power to reach the desired temperature, raising your energy costs (and taking money out of your wallet).

Lastly, turn off the oven just prior to taking out your pies. The retained heat within the oven will finish cooking the pies without drawing any more power (don’t worry, the pies will still smell and taste wonderful). And with all of the additional savings, you can install energy-saving windows to better see the changing colors of the trees.

For additional ways to save on your energy bills, feel free to give us a call at 1-800-417-LONG (5664). Enjoy your October!

Energy efficiency outside of the home!

While Long Energy Solutions focuses on making homes more energy-efficient through sustainable home improvements, we understand that there are things that can be done outside of the home to help save the environment. The graphic below from the Department of Energy highlights ways you can save money when driving your car such as removing items from your trunk and properly inflating your tires. The team at Long Energy Solutions was trying to register a foot-powered, Flintstone-style car with the DMV, but apparently it would be too hazardous to drive on the Beltway.
