ArchivesNovember 11, 2011Wishing everyone a Happy Veteran’s Day!
The team of energy experts at Long Fence and Home would like to wish everyone a Happy Veteran’s Day, but more importantly to offer our thanks to the brave men and women who have served our country and continue to protect everything that we hold dear. The founder of Long Fence and Home, Bob Long, served our country as a Merchant Marine during World War II, and instilled in the company an appreciation for members of the military. As a continuation of this appreciation, Long Fence and Home always offers current and past military personnel a 25% discount on all products and services. Along with the discount, Long Fence and Home will be participating in Decorate-A-Vet next week, a project where we will be joining other service and home improvement companies to enhance the homes of veterans in the community. We are eternally grateful for everything our military does throughout the world, and will continue to help out anyway we can. If you see a veteran today, be sure to shake their hand and say thank you. They certainly deserve it. November 4, 2011November’s energy saving tip!
October is over and we’ve already had our first snow! As the air continues to chill and the temperatures start to drop, your heating costs will begin to rise. We know that heating your home is important, but did you know that setting your thermostat at 68 degrees or lower during the winter months is the ideal temperature? For each degree you increase the temperature from the recommended setting, you can increase your energy bill up to 4%. Here’s a quick table to show you the impact of raising your temperature.
If you are looking to keep your home warm during the winter without turning up the thermostat, the most cost-effective solution is installing Long Attic Mirror, Long Fence and Home’s state-of-the-art radiant barrier. Made from the same material as NASA spacesuits, the radiant barrier will create a shield in your home’s attic that will prevent the warm air from escaping while at the same time preventing the cold air from penetrating your living space. July 8, 2011The Final Space Shuttle Launch: A Home Energy Comparison
![]()
Space – the final frontier. These are the blog entries of the home improvement company Long Fence and Home. NASA’s storied space shuttle program is schedule to end today with the launch of the shuttle “Atlantis”. Over the last three decades the program has launched over 130 flights. The final shuttle is scheduled to return July 20th. We wish NASA a safe and successful voyage. Have you ever thought about how much energy is necessary to send a shuttle into orbit? If you were launching a shuttle using the energy in your home, how much do you think it would cost? Some quick research reveals that the cost would be around $90,750! Chump change right? That is approximately 48 years of home energy bills. Of course, this doesn’t include the cost of the actual space shuttle. I think homeowners are going to have to rely on Star Trek reruns to satisfy their space exploration needs. If you are interested in launching a shuttle from your backyard in the near future, it would be wise to start saving on your energy costs. A free year of energy would be a great way to start!
