And now, ‘Snowmaggedon’ is dealing yet another blow to many area homeowners: ice damming. Ice damming occurs when warm air escaping from a home’s attic melts snow on the roof, causing it to flow downhill. If the portion of the roof near the eves is below 32 degrees Fahrenheit, the water will freeze, forming a sort of dam that blocks further run off. If your home has icicles hanging from the eves but little snow on the roof itself, chances are you have an ice dam.
