The Untold Victim Of Snowstorms: Your Home

First it was the long lines at the grocery stores. Then the shoveling, the cabin fever and the killer commutes. And now, ‘Snowmaggedon’ is dealing yet another blow to many area homeowners: ice damming.

Ice damming occurs when warm air escaping from a home’s attic melts snow on the roof, causing it to flow downhill. If the portion of the roof near the eves is below 32 degrees Fahrenheit, the water will freeze, forming a sort of dam that blocks further run off. If your home has icicles hanging from the eves but little snow on the roof itself, chances are you have an ice dam.

6 Easy Steps To Improve Your Home’s Energy-Efficiency

I wanted to share some easy steps you can take to improve your home’s energy-efficiency.  In addition, I wanted to share this editor’s note from a recent issue of Qualified Remodeler magazine because I think it gets to the heart of why energy-efficient home improvements are so important.

According to the Rocky Mountain Institute, a Colorado-based environmental think tank, buildings consume half of the energy in the U.S. and are responsible for almost half all greenhouse gas emissions.  On an individual level, your home energy usage likewise represents the largest share of your carbon footprint—more than the foods you eat, the car you drive and the miles you clock each year in long-distance air travel.

Welcome to the Long Fence and Home Blog!

Today I am proud to introduce the Long Fence and Home Blog, our newest resource for helping you make the best decisions about improving your most valuable investment—your home. From our roots in 1945 as a local fence company, through our expansion into home improvements in the 1990s, we have remained true to the vision of our founder, Bob Long, who taught us that if you focus on client satisfaction, all else will fall into place.

We do this in three ways. First, we scour the country seeking out the very best products, whose benchmarks for performance have been scientifically proven. Second, we try to educate our clients about our products and how they compare to other options out there. And third, we guarantee satisfaction for life. When you meet with a Long Quality Product Specialist, you’re not just getting another sales pitch; rather, you are gaining a partner whose purpose is to understand your vision for your home and to help make it come true. It is this approach that earns us the respect of thousands of satisfied homeowners every year, a reputation we wear as our true badge of honor.

Our blog is an important new way for us to deliver on our mission because we believe that an educated client is a client for life.  We want our site to be a place you can trust for the latest news, tips, product comparisons and helpful answers to your questions. It’s not about selling you something; it’s about helping you make the right decision for you and your family. And with more talk today about the importance of becoming more energy-efficient, our blog postings will give you the information you will need to come up with a plan to weatherize your home, from simple steps you can do yourself to bigger projects we can help you with.

I hope you’ll come back and visit us often!
